An introduction to our website

The first of the two Royal Navy ships thus far to bear the name HURWORTH was a Hunt II escort destroyer, commissioned in 1941, and lost off Kalymnos, one of the Greek Dodecanese islands in October 1943 with the loss of 133 lives, one of whom was my uncle, Signalman Kenneth Tilling P/JX 270221, aged 20, and who had joined her in March 1943.

Our intention is that this site becomes the definitive record of HURWORTH, her crew and all who sailed in her, and the place where her survivors, their families and friends can share their memories, stories and tributes.
